The Department of Botany at Payyanur College is a hub of excellence in plant sciences, offering comprehensive undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Affiliated with Kannur University, our department is dedicated to advancing knowledge in areas such as plant physiology, taxonomy, ecology, and biotechnology.

Sale of Mushroom Spawn by PG Department of Botany

 

The PG Department of Botany at Payyanur College successfully conducted a sale of mushroom spawn on July 29, 2024, at 2:30 PM within the department premises. The event was inaugurated by Mr. Muhammed Haneef K A , Assistant Professor in the Department of Botany at Brennan College, who graced the occasion with his presence. Dr. P.R. Swarn, the IQAC Coordinator, extended warm felicitations to the department for the initiative. The sale was well-received by the P G Student Arya K, showcasing the department's commitment to promoting sustainable agriculture and entrepreneurship. The department successfully sold 4.5 kg of mushroom spawn to a total of 4 interested buyers. The department also acknowledges the hard work and dedication of its faculty and students in making this event a success. The department hopes to continue such initiatives in the future, contributing to the growth of the local community and promoting awareness about mushroom




Two-day workshop on mushroom spawn production

 

The PG Department of Botany at Payyanur College successfully organized a two-day workshop on mushroom spawn preparation on the 10th and 11th of July, 2024. The workshop was aimed at providing hands-on training to participants in the techniques and methodologies involved in mushroom spawn preparation. The workshop was inaugurated by the Principal of Payyanur College, Dr. (Prof) V.M. Santhosh. In his inaugural address, Dr. Santhosh highlighted the potential of mushroom cultivation as a sustainable and profitable agricultural practice. The resource person for the workshop was Mr. Janeesh E.T., a renowned microbiologist, lab technician, and entrepreneur. Mr. Janeesh brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to the workshop, ensuring that participants received high-quality training. 73 studentsfrom various department participated in the programme.




Hands-on Training on Mushroom Cultivation for Empowerment of Kudumbasree Unit Members, Kunhimangalam Grama Panchayat.

 

The PG Department of Botany at Payyanur College, in collaboration with Kunhimangalam Grama Panchayath and Kudumbasree, successfully conducted a hands-on training program in mushroom cultivation on October 25, 2023, empowering 30 local women with sustainable agriculture skills. The comprehensive program included theoretical sessions, hands-on demonstrations, and small group workshops covering mushroom varieties, growth requirements, substrate preparation, inoculation, and maintenance. Inaugurated by college faculty and Grama Panchayath members, the event emphasized women's role in promoting sustainable agriculture and economic viability, equipping participants with practical skills to improve livelihoods and foster environmentally conscious practices, marking a significant step towards community development and empowerment.




Certificate course on Mushroom Cultivation 2023-24

 

The PG Department of Botany at Payyanur College conducted a Hands-on Training Session on Mushroom Cultivation on September 20, 2023, at 2 pm in the College Botany laboratory. Led by Dr. Deepamol P.C., Assistant Professor, the comprehensive training covered spawn preparation, mushroom bed design, infrastructure setup, pest and disease management, harvesting, preparation, marketing, and recipes. Participants gained practical experience by preparing individual mushroom beds, actively engaging with the cultivation process. This certificate course equipped students with essential skills and knowledge in mushroom cultivation, fostering entrepreneurship and sustainable agricultural practices.




Certificate course on Mushroom Cultivation 2022-23

 

The PG Department of Botany at Payyanur College conducted a Hands-on Training Session on Mushroom Cultivation on May 18, 2023. The certificate course, inaugurated by Principal Prof. Dr. V.M. Santhosh, aimed to promote mushroom cultivation as a viable entrepreneurial venture. Dr. Harikrishnan E (HOD) and Dr. Deepamol P.C. (Assistant Professor) emphasized the technology's importance and potential. Mr. Janeesh E.T. (RARS Pilicode) led the demonstration, covering spawn preparation, mushroom bed design, pest management, harvesting, marketing, and recipes. Participants gained practical experience, preparing individual mushroom beds. The event equipped students with essential skills and knowledge for starting mushroom cultivation units.




Certificate course on Mushroom Cultivation 2021-22

 

The PG Department of Botany conducted Hands on Training Session as a part of the certificate course on Mushroom Cultivation on 19th July 2022 at 2 pm. The programme was conducted in the             College Botany laboratory. Dr. Ratheesh Narayanan M.K., Assistant Prof., PG Department of Botany delivered the welcome address and highlighted the importance and innovation of mushroom cultivation technology.  Dr. Harikrishnan. E, HOD, PG Department of Botany, presided the function and motivated the students regarding the new investment opportunities in Mushroom cultivation. Prof. Dr. V.M. Santhosh, Principal, Payyanur College inaugurated the programme and cherished the significance of starting mushroom cultivation in every household and also forecasted the demand of mushroom food industry as an added strength in food science and technology. The demonstration and hands on training session was handled by Mr. Janeesh E.T., Lab Technician, RARS Pilicode. The participants were trained for preparation of spawn, mushroom bed, design & infrastructure of mushroom production farm, pest & disease management, harvesting, preparation of mushroom, marketing of mushroom in local market and mushroom recipes. The students themselves prepared mushroom beds individually and became active participants of the programme.  The programme ended with the vote of thanks by Dr. Deepamol .P.C., Assistant Prof., PG Department of Botany.
